Ash wood frame

Overview
The full design intent, materials, and how this system is built — in detail.
The DC-004 dining chair is built on an ash wood frame. Ash is a light-colored, smooth-grained hardwood, typically straight-grained with a beige-to-light-brown hue, and it darkens gently over time with exposure to light and air. That clean, even grain gives the chair a quiet, contemporary read at the table without competing with the place setting in front of it.
As a frame material for a dining chair, ash earns its place structurally. White ash sits at roughly 1320 lbf on the Janka hardness scale as a species reference — just below white oak and above red oak, walnut and cherry — which is why it is regarded as a durable, shock-resistant hardwood that stands up to the daily push-back-from-the-table use a dining chair sees. (That figure describes the species in general, not a tested rating of this finished piece.)
Ash also takes a finish exceptionally well, holding tone and grain definition cleanly. Like all wood seating, it lives longest away from direct sun and heat sources such as radiators and HVAC vents, which fade and dry the wood, and in a room held around 40–55% relative humidity so the fibers neither swell nor crack. Day to day, a soft dry or barely-damp microfiber cloth keeps abrasive dust from scratching the surface, and any spill is best blotted promptly, then dried.

FAQ
These questions help buyers compare options and reduce friction before inquiry.
The frame is ash wood — a light-colored, smooth-grained hardwood that is typically straight-grained with a beige-to-light-brown hue. Ash naturally darkens over time as it is exposed to light and air, and it takes a finish exceptionally well.
Ash is regarded as a durable, shock-resistant hardwood. As a species reference, white ash rates about 1320 lbf on the Janka hardness scale — just below white oak and above red oak, walnut and cherry — which suits the repeated everyday stress a dining chair takes. That number describes the species generally, not a tested spec for this finished chair.
Dust regularly with a soft dry or only slightly damp microfiber cloth to prevent abrasive buildup that can scratch the surface, and blot any spills promptly before drying the area. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources such as radiators and HVAC vents, and aim for indoor humidity around 40–55% so the wood neither swells nor cracks.
