Where do the figures in this guide come from?
This guide draws on supplier pages from Magnet Trade, Better Kitchens and Reno Kitchens, a Mumsnet thread of buyers, and a comparison from OPPEIN, a cabinet maker with its own range. Those figures belong to the suppliers and dates that published them, so use them as questions for your own quote.
Which suppliers do UK buyers shortlist for a budget kitchen?
In the Mumsnet thread, one buyer asked which retailers to consider on a reasonable budget. The thread named Wren, IKEA, B&Q, Wickes, Howdens, DIY Kitchens, Better Kitchens, Lark & Lark and Smile Kitchens, and DIY Kitchens and Wren drew the most recommendations. Views differ by supplier: one poster called a Howdens kitchen "falling apart", another said an IKEA kitchen was "a hell of a lot cheaper" than the alternatives, and a third wrote that "a lot of it is in the fitting". Reno Kitchens lists ten UK names for affordable cabinets, including Kitchen Warehouse, Units Online and Magnet, and puts itself first, so read that ranking as a seller's list.
Should you buy rigid or flat-pack units?
Better Kitchens sells units rigid, with doors and drawers already fitted, or flat-pack, and says flat-pack is put together on site, which can help if access to your home is tight. Rigid units arrive fully built, so there is no cabinet assembly on site. If you choose rigid units, check the width of your hall and stairs against the largest unit before you order. Its cabinets are 18mm thick, with soft-close drawers and hinges as standard. DIY Kitchens says its fully built units are priced below many flat-pack retailers, which is the supplier's own comparison. Two Mumsnet posters also praised DIY Kitchens units arriving pre-assembled.
What do the cheapest UK kitchen ranges look like?
Magnet Trade names Tatton as its most affordable Shaker range and Nova as its most affordable modern range, and describes Ascoli as an affordable modern option constructed from 18mm MFC. Its budget page asks visitors to apply for a trade account, so a homeowner may need a builder or fitter to buy through it. Magnet Trade also states a minimum 15-year guarantee on each cabinet. Better Kitchens lists door ranges in vinyl on MDF, painted MDF and painted solid ash frames, so ask for the door material and the cabinet-body material in every quote. A low range price may leave out the worktop, handles and plinths, so ask for the list of what each price includes. If your existing cabinets
are sound, see our guide to replacement doors that fit your cabinets before you replace everything.
Why does the quote differ from the unit price?
Better Kitchens says the price depends on the number and size of units, the door range and colour, the worktops, appliances, sinks and handles you add, and delivery to your postcode, and that fitting, plumbing and electrical work are separate. Reno Kitchens says there is no single price for affordable cabinets, because size, layout, door style, finish, storage and fitting all change the total. So a kitchen renovation cost UK figure only means something for a defined plan and scope. OPPEIN says fitting often costs more than the product at B&Q and Wickes and that independent fitters can save £2,000-£3,500 compared to approved installer markups. One Mumsnet poster wrote "I could have paid 20k, I paid 3" for a builder-fitted
IKEA kitchen. Those are single examples, not a UK average. Ask for fitting on its own line, and use our kitchen renovation cost guide and complete modular kitchen quote guide to check the scope.
What should a budget kitchen guarantee cover?
Read the guarantee before the price. Better Kitchens states a Lifetime guarantee on cabinets, hinges, drawer boxes and runners against material defects and workmanship, and its footnote says Lifetime means for as long as the purchaser owns the property the kitchen was delivered to. It adds a 5 year guarantee on doors, cornice, pelmet, plinths and end panels, and says paint finishes are not covered and cover is for domestic use only. Magnet Trade states a minimum 15-year guarantee on each cabinet. OPPEIN says one premium supplier's lifetime guarantee applies only when approved fitters fit the kitchen.
How long do delivery and fitting take?
Better Kitchens aims to deliver complete kitchens within 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the range, lets you choose the delivery week at checkout and emails the exact date about 10 working days before. It supplies the kitchen and you choose who fits it, and it suggests asking your fitter to check your plan and measurements before you order. It adds that any gas or electrical work must be carried out by a suitably qualified person. Reno Kitchens also starts with measuring the space, including windows, doors, appliances and plumbing. Allow for the delivery time when you plan the rest of the renovation, because the delivery date sets when fitting can start.
Can a stainless steel kitchen be a budget choice?
Fadior is a premium 304 stainless steel cabinetry brand from Foshan, China, not a reseller of conventional board cabinets. Board materials appear in the budget ranges above. Magnet Trade lists Ascoli as 18mm MFC. Better Kitchens lists vinyl on MDF and painted MDF doors. Fadior's kitchens and fitted storage use 304 stainless steel cabinet bodies, with doors, finishes and worktops specified as separate components, and Fadior states a 30-year cabinet-body structural warranty, with terms per contract. If you expect to keep a kitchen for decades, compare cabinet-body material and guarantee terms as well as door colour. Browse the Fadior materials library for the materials and finishes, and the Fadior kitchen page for its kitchen designs.

What can a Fadior galley kitchen teach a budget plan?
In this Fadior Real Homes case with two facing runs, two facing worktop runs share one aisle, with tall storage at the end. The case write-up advises marking appliance doors and drawer pulls on both sides before fixing cabinet depths, a check for another narrow kitchen. It also says the cabinet bodies are 304 stainless steel, while the worktops and door finishes are separate specifications. Our guide to aisle width and storage flow in narrow plans covers the layout, and the Fadior real homes portfolio shows more documented rooms.
